Electrum Duo, comprised of flutist Sophia Anastasia and percussionist Ralph Sorrentino, is a dynamic and exciting chamber ensemble that presents concerts using a variety of flutes and percussion instruments. The duo has been performing engaging recitals throughout the Greater Philadelphia area since its inception in 2007.
Performances encompass a broad range of musical genres, from standard twentieth-century repertoire to more eclectic pieces. The duo's tonal spectrum spans a wide variety of colors, making use of various flutes and a multitude of percussion instruments including vibraphone, marimba and multiple percussion. Electrum Duo's interest in promoting the music of young composers while adding to the flute and percussion duo repertoire has led them to explore several collaborative ventures and commissions. Recent university
and young people's recitals featured an in-depth look at the chamber
music of Ingolf Dahl. The Duo presented several lecture recitals
based on his Duettino Concertante. The performances included a detailed
analysis of the compositional elements of the work as well as the
technical demands required of the performers. Lectures
were tailored to the experience and interests of each audience.
The Duo's children's concerts emphasized Dahl's use of register,
melodic and rhythmic imitation, unique timbres and musical form.
Undergraduate-level university recitals thoroughly examined compositional
elements including melodic and rhythmic analysis, twelve-tone rows,
musical form and extended techniques. The series concluded with
a formal recital followed by a visit to the recording studio which
